Urban Inspired Photo Shoot!

It was a clear and crisp winter's day, just perfect for an urban inspired photo shoot.  It was quit an enjoyable afternoon where a small group of us local Sacramento photographers gathered to hone our talents and expressive our creative impressions.  As per usual Ruben Gonzalez from fineportraitstudio.com headed up the teaching with lighting fundamentals, and this month my assignment was to find and urban location for us to put these skills to good use in a hands on shoot.  I just love doing that, it really makes our lessons come to life.  I also so appreciate that everyone sees things differently and it inspires our creativeness to think outside of the ordinary and helps to develop our eyes, with color, texture and positioning of our subject.

This week we had two beautiful girls model for us.  It was a blast being with them, it was such a girls party at my house before the shoot.  The girls must have brought their entire closets, there were mounds of clothing on the couches over chairs and accessories scattered in an array of colors all over the coffee table.  The girls modeled the outfits for me beforehand and we pick three outfits per model to spice the shoot up just a bit.  I think it was great however all of us where so involved with the shoot I think the girls only had
the chance to change twice.

Anyway it was the best way to end the year off with a great learning experience, the company and skill of fellow photographers and something that we all could add to our portfolios!  Great job everyone looking forward to our next meeting in 2010!

Here are some other photos from our talented photographers in the group:

Johnson Family Photo Shoot

I so enjoyed photographing the Johnson family.    Four beautiful children, Tylor, Maddison, Kennedy and Zachary, I love the difference in the ages.  Two boys and two girls, I took these images in early spring and found this daisy patch believe it or not in our local area.  I just love the contrast of the yellow daisy's and blue sky.  We even found an amazing white horse that wanted to be in the pictures too (look below).   Unfortunately we didn't have as much time with the boys as we did the girls, that explains more of the girls pictures.

Anyway is was a lot of fun and here are some of the images capture on that day!  Enjoy!

Apple Hill | E-Session

Peter and Felicia's E-Session was amazing!  What more can one ask for, a beautiful couple in a spectacular autumn setting and being the person invited in to capture their love for one another.  I so appreciate Peter and Felicia's creative vision and planning for the shoot, emailing me back and the forth their ideas.  There involvement in the process made me better able to understand the look they were going for and I think they were very happy with the outcome.

I love to work with clients like this, the willingness to experiment and try new things.  You would not believe at the end of the day the clouds parted we had a fifty-fifty split of dark blue dramatic sky and an incredible orange and pink sunset, it started to mist and a rainbow appear amongst the blue sky.  Wow, what a day!  I love you Peter and Felicia...I can't wait for your big day.  Felicia you are so incredibly talented and creative, I am anxiously awaiting to capture the details of your wedding.  Let's bring that Hollywood Glamour to life at your wedding!

Certainly an Angel!

A smile, a glance and a laugh!  Where does playtime end and work start?  I don't think you can draw a line especially when you can work with individuals who have beaming personalities.  Angel certainly radiates fun, an easy-going spirit and affability from head to toe.  Another beautiful face to photograph y job!

I see the light!

Last night was the first night of our new mini photographers community of Sacramento (MPCS) group meeting. It was very refreshing to hone our lighting skills and to have a educational and technical approach to lighting, which even included a hands on session. Rubén González opened our meeting with a very nice presentation on understanding lighting fundamentals, such as how to use available light and adding supplemental lighting.

Our model, beautiful Leah helped us to create these images. Household items were used in creating this warm and cozy atmosphere. A video light was directed through a bamboo tray to make an exaggerated blind effect of light, highlighting the subjects face. Candles were also incorporated into the surrounding to give these images a very moody feeling. These exercises makes your creative passions simmer and stew and it greatly helps to train your eye in an artistic perspective. With photography there are so many creative avenues to travel, now have some fun experimenting!

Also Kristi, thank you so much for your hospitality and for hosting the session!

Blog yah later,

Shona :)
